An awesome program hosted by the Far West Community Associates at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. Jeff Nigro, along with musician Stephen Alltop and soprano Josefin Stoppelenburg, brings to life women artists and composers of the 18th and 19th centuries. From Angelica Kauffmann and Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun to Berthe Mosisot and Mary Cassatt, Nigro, Alltop, and Stoppelenburg will showcase them all in an entertaining and engaging fashion.
Jeff Nigro is a research associate in the Arts of the Ancient Mediterranean and Byzantium and an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Learning and Public Engagement. He has had a professional relationship with the Art Institute of Chicago for over 30 years, including serving as director of adult programs in the Department of Museum Education from 2003 to 2010. Jeff received the Chairman’s Award for outstanding service. He teaches adult education seminars at the Newberry Library and is an instructor at the Center for Life and Learning in Chicago. Jeff is a frequent speaker for the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA), where he is the former regional coordinator of the Greater Chicago region of JASNA.

Program - Lynn Rymarz will portray Lilla Cabot Perry, an American artist. Step back in time to hear how she grew up in a prominent Boston family and discovered her talent sketching at the age of 11. She dedicated herself to her craft, discovering her own unique style of painting portraits and scenes around her. When she and her family moved to Giverny, France, Lilla met Claude Monet, who became a good friend and mentor. Later, a move to Japan with her family influenced her paintings and earned her recognition. Lilla also became known for her published books of poetry.
