On Friday, November 10, NCI ARTworks will host an opening reception for the month-long exhibition of the exquisitely crafted ceramic art of internationally acclaimed ceramicist Lucia Matos at the NCI ARTworks Gallery from 6 to 9pm in the Westclox building in Peru.
Matos is a ceramic maker based in the Chicago area. She is originally from Brazil, but has lived in the US for half of her life.
After having to cut short her orchestral conducting career because of hearing problems, she found clay and, with that, rediscovered her creative voice.
According to Matos, "I am attracted to clean lines and organic textures, and I hope my pieces convey a sense of peace, equilibrium, and serenity.
Each piece is designed individually, but they work particularly well in groups, interacting as an ensemble.

Fundraising is better when people can get something extraordinarily beautiful and entertaining and interesting for their generosity, and one of the ways we achieve this objective is to partner with local travel agencies to offer artistic and cultural tours in the USA and abroad. We partnered with the extraordinarily talented and generous Jim West of Travel West and Craft Tours for our 2022 fundraising trip to the "Vie Dei Tesori" in Sicily and we look forward to working with his company on the "New England in the Spring Tour" in 2023 and on the next "Vie Dei Tesori Tour" in October 2024. More info will be posted.

We partnered with Colleen Dempsey Mitchell and Erin Foster of Travel Connections to do the NYC theater fundraising trip in 2022 that was escorted by the absolutely fabulous Don Grant Zellmer. I can't thank them enough for their guidance and generosity. We will be working with them again on the "NYC Theater Tour" in June of 2024. Stay tuned for more info on these trips, too!
