The Silo Pathways Countryside Public Art Tour is the Legacy Project of NCI ARTworks. The organization is committed to facilitating the development of public art and the establishment of a tourism attraction drawing visitors to the towns and villages of La Salle, Bureau, and Putnam counties of Illinois.
Find Your Connection
The “Find Your Connection" mural will commemorate the historic contributions of the village of Seneca to our community and country.
We're transforming the wall on the north side of the building at 311 North Main Street into a unique work of public art. The mural commemorates the historic contributions families, friends, and neighbors made for our community and our country.
It is our hope that every member of the Seneca community -- those who live here and those who have memories of our amazing village-- will help make this addition to our main thoroughfare a reality in 2022.
The 80-foot by 32-foot mural depicts: The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad Depot; the Illinois & Michigan Canal; the Seneca Shipyard; the Hogan Grain Elevator; and downtown Seneca. The centerpiece will be the LST (Landing Ship Tank) that was manufactured in the Seneca Shipyard. The mural will be hand-painted on aluminum sheets mounted to a steel support grid. A steel shipbuilding crane and telegraph pole will rise above the mural. The existing vintage Schlitz beer sign will also be restored. The art, created and installed by artist Ray Paseka and his team at Westclox Studios Inc., will be visible to southbound traffic entering Seneca on Rte. 170.
The Village of Seneca is working in partnership with North Central Illinois ARTworks, the regional arts agency. When completed, the mural will be the fifth public art installation on the Silo Pathways Countryside Public Art Tour, a tourism attraction that NCI ARTworks is creating throughout La Salle, Bureau, and Putnam Counties.
